Early 29 pick up transmission top

On the 29 pickup, going from AA transmission to A transmission. I can't get to the truck until some snow melts. So... I am wondering if I need a 29 A transmission top, (with the centered E brake ) or will a 30 - 31 E brake line up in the pickup?

The early 29 had the center handle, the later 29 had the side handle. Either will work, but the rod from the handle to the cross shaft is different, and must match the handle.
If you have the side handle that came with the 4 speed, then you can use the side handle transmission tower.

I just did the changeover from 4-speed to 3-speed and used the side handle just as 2manycars said.

The only snag is that the hole in the early center crossmember is too small for the later style brake rod clevis to fit through.

I routed my rod underneath the crossmember for now.

I don't know when they enlarged the hole but they started the side mounts in July according to the JS..

The original post clearly says he removed the 4 speed from his 29 truck. The question was not if it came from the factory with a 4 speed, it was about the brake handle.
