Early 28 starter problem

I have an early 1928 AR with the multidisc clutch, it had the early style starter with the 1/2 in. shaft. the bendix was broken. The problem is that later starters bind up unless you leave the starter lose or shim the top bold out. Now my Question is there a fix for this ????? or can I have the flywheel cut down about .060 ??????? Anybody with any info please call me at (410) 686-6187 or email me at jburessr@yahoo.com Thanks, Joe...

I think others will know for sure but I recall that the T bendix fits the early starter. That's the easiest fix.

I had a similar problem with my 28 starter. I was luck enough to find a NOS bendix at Obsolete Parts Co. 812-359-4965. I don't know if he has others in stock but it would be good to give him a try. As far as I know, the "T" bendix will not work on an "A".

For more info and responses to my thread search for the thread entitled 28 bendix problem. Be sure to inspect your starter shaft for damage too.
