early 1934 Cowl vent ratchet problem

One of my 1934 Ford Coupe bodies must have been built very early in the production year. One of the several telltale signs is the '33 style cowl vent which does not allow for a screen. For some odd reason the vent ratchet and spring is not on this car. I ordered a nice aftermarket. The Ratchet piece fits like a glove. However, I do not see any logical location where the spring, which holds the vent in the down position, attaches. I do know the dash was swapped out decades ago. I'm stumped. Help! Thx.

There should be a tab with a small hole in it for one end of the spring at the perimeter of the rear of the recessed drain trough surrounding the opening in the cowl as viewed from below. The other end of the spring attaches to the ratchet arm.
