E-brake cable

Hi , I need help installing a new e-brake cable on a '55 T-bird. The cable attaches to the end of the pull handle by iinstalling the small ball in the socket in the end of the handle.

This cable system is common to other Ford and Mercurys of this vintage.
My problem is being able to push the pulley into place so that the clevis will go in the hold.

Do the two small holes in the pulley serve a purpose?

Thanks Joe

I replaced mine and am looking at it right now. As far as I know, the two small holes do not serve a purpose related to assembly.

I don't remember any particular problems getting the pulley into place, but first use a drift pin to get the pulley into alignment with the hole than insert the regular pin as you push out the drift pin. Getting the pulley into place while the unit is upside down may help. Also, pull out the handle a little bit so you are working with more of the cable which will be more flexible than working with the end of the cable.

Another suggestion is to bend the retaining tab at the back to give you a little more room to work. Then bend it back. Go easy

Its probably the stiffness of the cable more than anything. Just use more pressure to hold it in place while inserting the drift pin.
