John Deere does not use a primer on their equipment from the factory so I've used their paint products the same way. I have used their spray cans as well as gallons and had excellent results. Their color called Blitz Black is a semi-gloss finish.
My absolute favorite was Krylon Epoxy Enamel, but I can't find it any more. Rustoleum High Performance enamel is also excellent, and has a "high volume" spray head that doesn't ever clog (in my experience anyway).
