Dual vacuum distributor with Pertronixs

"The easiest way out of it is with a 57/59 - 60/ Y-BLOCK dist. This will also require a later style carb (H4000 does not have correct vacuum signal) or a CARTER WCFB of the period (so that you can retain your present intake) to deliver a ported vacuum signal for the advance."

"A '57+ distributor is the better dist but needs a vac signal from a '57+ carb to advance the timing correctly. I've been told the teapot carbs can be modified to work with a '57+ dist."

You can change the distributor to a '57 and later design and still keep the original Teapot Holley 4 barrel carb. The teapot, or any Loadomatic style carb can easily be converted to ported manifold vacuum signal to the distributor.
Just another way to go. Saves money too.

This distributor on EBAY, according to the part number is for a 1956 Ford with 272 two barrel engine. Pretty sure the advance diaphragm is the same as teapot 4 barrel 272's in '55, but the primary and secondry prings may be the difference for the advance curve. There is no spring in the diaphragm with these, It's all under the dist,. cap.
You could probably use it, and just swap the two springs from your used distributor to the new one. It is a little pricey though ($275).

Sal,

The reason I posted that DIST is that an OEM NOS distributor is a rarity. It can be re-calibrated to the engine calibration if any performance problem(s) result..

KULTULZ,

Yes, it is a rarity to see an NOS distributor like that. I was just commenting on how it could be used on the original poster's car, since it was for a 272 two barrel engine.

Not sure what you meant when you said I have you blocked ? If you mean on Ford Barn, even if I wanted to block someone, I wouldn't know how to do it.

I use a 57 Distributor converted with a Pertronix trigger and use full manifold vacuum.
Seems to work just fine.
I also kept the Holley T Pot

Is that Ebay distributor an load-o-matic distributor?
Thanks
Jim
Load-o-matic Y-block distributors have springs on top and a flat side of the shaft to index the rotor.
The '57+ distributors don't have springs showing and use a notch in the upper shaft to fit the rotor.

Back on page one in comment #13 is a link to instructions for modifying a teapot carb vacuum port for a '57+ distributor.

Jim, yes, the NOS distributor on EBAY is a Loadomatic for a 1956 Ford pass. car 272 with a two barrel carb. The two barrel engines in 1956 used a single diaphragm, while the four barrel equipped 1956 cars used a dual diaphragm distributor. All Ford V8's were Loadomatic from at least 1949 through 1956 whether they had a two or four barrel carb.

Bubba (Jim Linder) here on Ford Barn rebuilds/fixes Ford distributors and may be able to supply a vacuum unit. Look him up
