Dual Exhaust Accessory Manifold

I'd like to run dual exhaust on my 1940 1/2 Ton Flathead. I found (read bought) this exhaust manifold for the left (driver's side) of the motor. Has anyone had any experience with this style? It seems so darn simple. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of in running the tail pipe? Thank you, Dennis/Arkansas

You will have to put it in place with engine in to see if it interferes with steering box or exits to close to firewall to connect. I have seen these and had a couple and do not know or remember if the one you show is for 32-48 or 49-53 chassis,as I think there was two variations at least. Ones I had were manufactured or sold in the fifties by a Los Angeles company like Scott or Scottie or Smith not Smithys,in my home town they were a chain before we had Midas or exhaust chain. What I did not like about them was they seemed to have a design to restrict not flow, restrict more than original left, but it definitely was part of a dual exhaust kit.

This manifold is for 8Ba engines in 49 up cars. I don't think that it will work on earlier cars. It will exit right on the steering gear.

it will eliminate the oil dip stick, not enought room for a rear sump oil pan , that is no place for the dipstick tube to go down behind the manifold. I do not think it will interfere with the steering box, looks like itis far enough way from it. I talked with the man who is casting these about putting one into my 41 3/4 ton truck with a 51 Merc engine and it will not work with the dpstick where it is!!!

Thank you guys very much! I appreciate your input, as always. I've attached another photo showing where the dip stick can pass through. The later engine application will be problematic. My car is totally disassembled so I have no way of checking any clearances out. Looks like that puppy is destined for ebay. Dennis/Arkansas
