Dual 97,s

Have rsently purchased a new pair. seems way too rich . My setup as follows . 8BA,40 over ,77B cam, edmunds heads ,edmuns dual intake,NGK 3112 plugs ,old mallory dual point, mallory 40,000 volt coil, nom progressive linkage. packard 7 mm suppression wires ( had flathead jacks steel core wires but drove electronic speedometer nuts ) doesnt really have much response on adjusting, plugs are black and soty. is the stock jets too much for this setup ? getting a bit fustrated have also plugs set at .025. have good spark at plugs. any help would be great . do not know Uncle Max's email so trying here thanks Ralph

You can look Uncle Max up in the membership listing and send him a pm or email. Charlie Ny and Ken Ct are also good at how to set up a 2x2 intake.

Are you talking about the good new 97's made across the pond or the ones that everyone is saying are junk made here?

checked timing with light and seems fine ,with carb linkage disconnected both have excellent throttle response . had 2 rebuilt 97,s before these and plugs would only be good for 30 -50 miles . rebuild job wasn't the greatest(won't mention who that's another story) with stock jets and power valves. I figured go for the new ones. Ralph

Max can straighten them out. I think your jetted and PV's are too big. Also could be a dist problem if your running the "loadamatic stock dist" OMO. ken ct.

My carbs were set up by Uncle Max and they have .043 mains and # 69 power valves. They are the English 97's and are on 59 ab (276) with l100 cam. My plugs are a very light tan after a hyway trip. Engine built by O'l Ron.

distributor is a mallory model 7C. type 275AX,points set at .020, mechanical advance.carbs are the english ones. rebuilder was done through Early Ford in Ohio which wre farmed out to BroylesAuto Service in Dayton ,Ohio. Developed a leak at one jet plug went to replace gasket and noticed plug came out too easy . found what I believe to be a black non hardening permatex to hold it in .75% of the threads were stripped out with just enough threads to hold the jet in . It was suggested to replace the pwer valves .and put the adjustable jets.#1 there as ugly as sin on the carbs and come with no directions on setup. This is a great site always learning something. Thanks Ralph

I too bought a pair of 97's through uncle Max and my car did the same. My engine is stock. I have a friend that is great with multi carb setups. He adjusted the carbs for me without taking anything apart or replacing. The engine runs great now and no more fouled plugs.
Stromberg has a help line or help tips on their website that is included with your new carbs. I would strongly suggest fine tuning before replacing any parts.
This is just my.02. Hope it works out for you
Mark
