Drop down resister

Did ford use a dropping resister for the gas guage and the water temp sender? I seem to remember hearing that ford used 6 volt guages for a period after they switched to 12 volt.

56 was the only year Ford used 12 volt gauges. From then a constant voltage reducer has been used to drop the voltage to 6 volts. Early models use a bolt on reducer connected to the back of the cluster - later models have it integral with the fuel gauge.
