Driveshaft for F-1

Hello...I'm thinking about replacing the non-syncro 4 speed in my F-1 for a stock 3 spd. Is there a difference in driveshafts or yokes between the two? Also, I believe the 3spd requires a 10" clutch rather than 11"....will I need a new flywheel or will this one work? Thank you.

along time ago i had a 51 ford pickup, it has a 302 ford with a heavy duty 3 speed, i was driving it very fast on the highway, then i felt a thump in my leg, then i looked into the rear view mirror and saw the drive shaft fly out from underneath the truck. then i pulled over and looked under the truck, and i saw that i broke the input shaft in the transmission. the trans was sitting there sideways, the thump was the stick hitting me in the leg. also the starter was gone and i broke the bell housing. it scared the s@&t out of me!

I did this two years ago - what a change in driveability!! Like a new truck!! Mine is a six, but the V-8 should be the same since the transmissions are the same. Yes, The drive shafts are different. The four speed has a different rear mount and the u-joint arrangement is different. You will need the shaft and yoke from a three speed. I used the same clutch disc, pressure plate and flywheel. Everything on the front end just bolts up. In the rear, you need a passenger car style rear mount and the new driveshaft as I mentioned. You also need a different piece that goes on top of the ****** to support the seal to the floor (transmission cover). I have one if you need it. Good luck - let me know if you have any other questions. nmacintyre@roadrunner.com
