drive or pull on trailer?

I am a rookie Model A'er. I am considering buying a trailer to tow my Model A for longer distances. Do you guys use trailers often? What kind of distances are you comfortable driving without concern of stressing your Model A?
Welcome to the A WORLD. Are you a member of the RED STICK club in Baton Rouge ? Great bunch of guys and the help they give people is second to none. have fun modelAtony tony white Lafayette, LA

Not a member yet. I have communicated with Jennifer a few times and received some good info from her. I am planning to attend their next meeting and hope to join the club at that time. She graciously extended an invitation for me to come out to meet her and some of the other members and I hope we can make that work. Thanks for the tip.

Been in your shoes, man.

Before the kingpins and some other worn-out front end pieces were replaced on the Tudor, I was also questioning whether to trailer or drive to far away spots. However, after having the front end and brakes redone, the car drives so beautifully (it just glides over the road), it's a "no-brainer": Drive it!

Suggestion- If you can get hooked up with that club, request to ride along on one of their tours and see what a well maintained A is like.

Been on several long trips, and it's such a joy (except when it's really hot). Only time it was ever on the side of the road was when the "mono fuse" blew and it killed the ignition. Found it, replaced the fuse, and away we went. To rectify that, I have since fused everything on the car separately. End of problem.

These cars are so well built, and so amazingly sturdy, I seriously doubt a properly maintained car would be any more trouble than a well maintained modern car. But then again, I'm also a bit of a noob too, so we shall see.

Very best of luck to you!

Joining a club and going on some tours or daily trips can be a good way to get a feel for your car. If it breaks down, quite often club members carry spare parts and can help with the repairs.

I've had mine on trailers (more so when I was getting used to the car) but now I'm comfortable driving it out of town quite often. I just look for routes that are not dedicated to the higher speeds and take my time.
If some destinations can only be accessed by high speed highways, then I'll look for a trailer to bring it to the event.

We drive our Model As on all club tours, near or far, except if we're going to show it at a national. We're planning on driving our deluxe delivery, with our club, to the Northwest regional in September.

rscardina;

As you can see most folks that trailer ,myself included do so out of necessity . ie Safest way to get your model A out of the big city is to trailer it . Cars do bounce around on the trailer which will sometimes shake up the carburator . Happened to me this past week end. If I lived in a town that I could drive out of without getting on an interstate hwy I would not have the expense of a truck and trailer and storage fee for the trailer plus insurance for both. But I live in a big city therefore for safety reasons I trailer out of the city.

sounds like my predicament: cant get outside of my town very far without going on a 4 lane 55mph highway...still gonna drive it with extra precautions and strobing amber lights in the rear. (mines an AA so a whopping 35mph...)

I drive mine, half the fun is in the adventure of logging on the miles. if it breaks, stop and fix it. there is always someone willing to help. for a back-up carry towing on your insurance or find out who your friends are with trailers. My car never let me down always got me back home.

IF-your A is restored to very good MECHANICAL CONDITION,it will take you anywhere.My coupe which I restored 8 yrs ago,has gone 14,000 miles so far with NO problems on the road.i havnt even had to clean the sed bowl or adjust the points.I rebored the engine,new valves etc,but only needed the odd shim removed on the std crank & brg,s,I have never needed to trailer an A any distance.I Have O-D in about 8 A,s since 1960.
