Draining block for winter

I just brought my car up from Ga back to NJ. I had been running vinegar for about two months, and flushed it out like five times and then put 50/50 green Prestone in. I think I'm good to go

Car owners in locations that get deep freezes are all too familiar with the danger of straight water. Those who haven't experienced these freeze/thaw cycles haven't got a clue. Sometimes it dips to double digit below zero for a few days in a row. Sorry but that's the facts.

Here in Minnesota, I have experienced a temp of -40 below zero ( C or F) in the sun one morning.

Temps in the 30 below zero (F) are not un-common....

I think that most have never experienced a completely frozen engine block..and that's good ! I always believed that it would 'split' the block somewhere. Well, mabe eventually it would have, but I started to drive it ('50 ford six) about 3am), never giving no antifreeze a thought ! Well, it only takes once to commit that to memory...forever ! In this case, after about 4/5 miles running time...the cumulative heat..that had no place to go, melted the tops out of two aluminum pistons. Hm, talk being in a bad place...ten mile from nowhere and -20 or so. Come to think of it, didn't have the $ to put antifreeze in it anyway. 'New' pistons from a junkyard and it ran like a ford should !!

Don't let Dog lap up any spills, Bill!
Thanks for the warning, Sparky, I hope everyone is aware of that DANGER!
I'm ever so careful, because of the :cool:Dog. I NEVER use ANY poisions anywhere, not even ROUNDUP, because of him. I collect old braided rugs from yard sales & use them under the engine, so there's NEVER a chance for a puddle. The rugs are SO absorbent, that one will soak up coolant or oil drips for 2 or 3 years & still look nice.
I'm a recycler, when the rug is old, I roll it up & tie it with baling wire & add it to the oak logs in the fireplace:D (DON'T TELL!) Bill W.

People that worry about pets drinking the antifreeze need to fix the leaks.:)

And should probably be more worried about the "sudden leak" that happens in their modern car with plastic cooling parts, a dozen or more hoses and clamps and a high pressure radiator cap!
