Draft Tube

Don't know if this is the place to ask this.

I have a 1955 Ford Fairlane with a 1962 Y-Block in it. I was looking to see if the draft tube has a filter in it. I see the tube comes up the side of the engine and connects to the top back side of engine. There is a small can shape part at the engine held in place with a big phillips head screw Will that contain the filer in this set up? Most things I read about the Y-Block always mention the tube connected to the side of the engine.

all the draft tubes I have seen contain no filter. In some instances I have used stainless brillo-type pads from supermarket stores but you have to be careful that no pieces can get into the engine or get expelled from it. I have used this on early 289-302 that have the breather in the back of the intake manifold.

A picture of what you have would help a lot. If it is a 62 engine, chances are that what you have at the back of the engine is part of the smog setup used back then. A pic will clear that up.

There is the possibility that it is an aftermarket smog setup.

You should be posting this in the Late V8 General Discussion section.
