Door Latch Removal

Been trying for a couple of hours to remove the driver's side door latch on my 28 coupe... I have removed all screws, etc. I just can't get the latch to come out of the door. The inside latch ear that the interior rod depresses against just won't slip out... its hanging on the edge of the door. Have tried all I know above breaking it. Any suggestions? Saltman

If you have all the latch screws and the outside door handle with it's shaft off, then the problem I usually have is forcing the outer latch plate past the door skin folded lip. I always have to force it on my 29 Tudor. I've never had the problem you mention, and my 29 Tudor latch should be the same. A search should turn up the 4 pictures I posted some time ago, which may help.

Tom... I have read your posts and others regarding the door latch removal problem. Sounds like pretty much the same problem as you have on your 29 tudor... except, on mne, I can't get the interior latch 'springed ear' past the hole's edge. To me, it 'has' to come out first because there is a tab on the exterior side that has to slide out. Does this make any sense? Still looking for pics... Saltman

If anyone is still watching.... Only after more tries to get my driverside door latch out of the door hole, do I see the problem. When I try and tilt the interior side of the latch out, it can not clear because the handle hole housing is hitting the window felt channel, therfore limiting how far I can tilt it. To me, interior side of the latch 'has' to rotate out first, so the exterior side 'tab' can be sliped out of the door frame. I am now taking all suggestions... above and beond breaking the latch and door. I know how to do that just fine. Saltman

For those that have some interest in my problem getting my 28 coupe driver side door latch off... I was right in, the problem is with the square handle-hole housing hitting the metal window felt channel. If you look, the exterior side of the metal channel has a notch cut out of it to allow the square handle-hole housing to rotate/clear. However, they did not cut mine large enough to accomodate this. Therefore, the only way they got it in originally was to force it in. And, I suspect that the latch has not operated correctly since. That's what I am trying to fix it. They bent the exterior ear of the main latch, so, that when the door is fully rotated downward to open the door, the dog slips off the end of it. Although it still operates, the handle catches at the very bottom due to this. I am loading a pic of that show the cutout and handle housing from above. Hope this helps anyone else having problems...
