Hi Barners

As a Ford A "New-Bee" I'm in the planning state on some of the projects I have in mind to carry out on my 1931 Coupe Deluxe and hope you can advice.

1. How do I remove the Door Interior Panels in order to install a new upholstery kit ?

2. How do I determine if its a early or a late 31, Engine nbr. says 4472948 and should match the car for original

/Rgds.

Remove the garnish moulding at the top. Remove the window riser handle and the door handle. Depending on which side, remove the door lock lever. (Please note in the one picture, the panel has just being installed and has not been cut-out for the door lock lever) Using a small putty knife, insert it between the door frame and the panel board and pry gently and it will pop loose. Work your way around the entire perimeter, and the panel will come loose. The clips are just spring loaded that pop into holes. I have also included a picture or two that you can see the holes in the door for reference.

Your engine number comes back as a mid-March build so I would call your car an early '31.

It's tougher to estimate build dates for '31 models from the engine number. However with a number like yours from the latter part of March it would be common to have an actual build date of a June/July. I would expect it to have an indented firewall with the fuel shutoff on the engine side of the firewall.

If you are worried about minimizing any possible damage to the door panels, you can get a special removal tool that looks like a forked putty knife. It lets you pry from both sides of a spring clip. If you cannot find one, you can make one by cutting a slot about half an inch wide down the center of a 2" wide putty knife.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the very illustrative pic's Brent, nice to have an idea of how things looks behind before you start ;O)

I have the fuel shutoff on the engine side of the firewall (under the hood)
