Door Hinges, 1931 Cabriolet

I'm about to start a repair on the very worn door hinges. The hinge on the door appears to be permanently mounted with heavy rivets. The other side of the hinge slips into the cowl and is screwed in place. I would like to get some suggestions on the easiest method to make the hinges tight like new. Thanks for your help, Ed

Note that the slant windshield cars used a 9/32 diameter pin, exact same pin as 1932 roadster and same diameter as most 1932-40.

On my 30 Cabby, we unscrewed the hinges and Doug Cox made new pins for them. They were clamped together for the job. My hinges wear forward and back due to the constant shake of the car.

Search for other threads about oversize pins. Bob B.suggested using roll pins by enlarging the center barrel hole which seems to be the one that wears on the SW cars, for example. As a very temporary fix, I've used JB weld packed in the worn hole and reamed to fit the standard pins. The 2nd short term option I've tried is to use thinwall brass tubing available at hardware stores that fit the SW pins perfectly. Lastly using the roll pins in the center barrel appears to be a great option requiring no removal of hinges from the car and utilizing the stock size pins available from the vendors.. Using cardboard panels cut round the hinges, etc. to protect the paint is mandatory in these scenarios. The roll pin and other possible sleeve options also allow removal if they ever wear before the pin does.
