In Vol. 1 of Les Andrews handbooks he says when removing an outside door handle on a closed car to turn the handle ¼ turn to the left after removing the two screws. I can’t get the handle to turn to the left at all, it won’t budge. Any ideas?
Took me about a month to get mine off of doors of my delivery. Lots of PB Blaster and a home made tool to put additional pressure on the stem of the handles. Finally got them out. Now to meet up with Dick Crabtree this spring to get our trade worked out. Hopefully matching keys for the rear door handle and door. Rod
It should read 1/8 turn, not 1/4 turn. 1/8 turn is 45degrees, and that's how much you turn it. As mentioned Kroil on the shaft is your friend. I also hold the latch flap in while turning and pulling the handle.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. I tried all of them singly and in combination, but no dice. It's too cold to pursue it any further now. I'll have to wait for the spring thaw.
In the mean time try to get some penetrant on the internals of the latch assembly to loosen up the corrosion.
The 2 screws you are removing are on the outside escrutcheon.
The door latch assembly stays screwed in place until you get the door handle out.
Follow tom's advice to press the latch in to relieve the tension on the shaft as you pull on the handle.

A 20 penny nail works to do the same job as shown in #7.
That is why the notch is there.
Chances are the shaft at the latch has never seen any grease in the lifetime of the car.
