Door handle popped off!

Hi all, long time listener first time caller. I recently picked up a 30' blindback 4-door. Before I go for my first drive there's some maintenance items I need to take care of. Not on my to-do list was my door handle! I went to open the door this morning and found myself with a handle in my hand. After much struggle to figure out how the door panel was installed and some rusty seized parts I managed to take a peek at the locking mechanism. It doesn't appear there is any retention feature to this the square key insert.

What am I missing?? Figured I'll apply some silicone or jbweld to the square retention mechanism in the door latch itself to hold things in place. But that seems a little wonky.

Help!?

the handle you have is a reproduction. the handles are held in place by the escutcheon and two screws. you can put your back together and drill a hole in the shaft and put a roll pin to hold in place. that is what we do when restoring a original handle.
