Door Glass installation

I have my '26 coupe doors painted and ready for the glass to be installed. Do I install the glass first and then slide the channels down and in? Any tricks to this?

Yes, I just did mine on my '27 coupe. Glass goes in from the top. Be sure to get the slant right, it slopes to the front. Then, I slid the channels down the sides. I found the outboard channel needed to go in first, then front.

I used silicone spray on the back of each channel and used the glass to work each one down in place. It took a while, but we made it without breaking the glass....the car had no windows when I bought it, so I spent quite a bit of time in "contemplation"! It also had no regulators. Had to do some creative fabrication on those, too.

Good luck!! You will be very happy when that new glass rolls up and down!!!

Thanx! I notice 1/4" glass seems to be quite tight in the repro channels but hopefully a little silicon spray and a bit of wear will frree it up. I'm just using my Masonite pattern right now so I hope the glass is a little more slippery.

Powdered grafite is a better alternative....I wish I'd thought of it and it's not so hard on the felt. On word of caution: I made a wood template also. I needed it to fabricate my regulator brackets. The edges were a little rough and that was hard on the felt as I kept doing trial and error fits, etc. I wound up having to order two new channels on my test side door. Hope you can avoid this one.

By the way, after checking with some local glass places and striking out, I ordered my glass from Mac's. It takes awhile and is not cheap, but I am very satisfied and both pieces fit nicely!! Good luck!

I had my 26 coupe done in softray safety glass. I was forunate to have the originals as templates. On the "stiff in the channel" issue, take a MIC to the OEM glass versus tthe new safety glass which is 1/4" (.250"" and measure the old stuff which I seem to recall was a bit bigger than 3/16" like .200". Eventually the channel relaxed but I was always worried about the pot metal parts in the riser. ws

My experience has been the same as Bill's. The glass has been in now about a week and the channels, orginally tight, did relax. Also, not sure if you're replacing the seal at the top, but I used the window rolled up to hold the seal in place until the cement dryed overnight....seems obvious....but sometimes for me the obvious takes a while!!!
