door bumper question

my 31 pickup instaling the dovetail in doors,I have the rubber inserts in door,how much room does it take to install the metal dovetail in,my rubber inserts are touching each other

Kind of trial and error, especially with repop rubbers. They come in about three different sizes, depending on who's selling them. I had to use a bench grinder and narrow mine down considerably on the face that enters the pocket to get them to fit. With the brass clip installed, you want a 'snug' fit between the clip faces and the thickness of the dovetail..

thanks I took off enough to get dovetail brkt in,length was ok just not enough room to get brkt in
