Donovan 4 Cylinder

We just need Ford to approve Terry's Block as a replacement block 95 yrs. later......
Then they would charge him a licensing fee for every block produced.

There is a Bi-annual Speedster Reunion in Nebraska. Last time Steve Serr who makes the Miller High Speed head came up with an award for people running his head on Burtz blocks. Terry got on board and they presented an award that is IMHO better than one you set on the mantle and have to dust.

Ho Ho Ho!

Seriously though,

Hopefully the racing associations including F.A.S.T. will find peaceful ways to cater to the desires of the very limited number of actual participants. We don't need any bitter fights. Having a separate Burtz class seems fair and might increase the number of participating paying racers. We sure don't want to irritate the folks that favor original blocks, they need to be able to keep doing that. Burtz blocks ought to increase the supply and lower the cost of stock blocks, so we all win.

There's not enough of us to be able to afford getting mad at each other!

One way to improve the breathing with two intake ports in the block is to use a different crankshaft and cam. The stock crank is down-up-up-down. Switching to down-down-up-up and appropriately changing the cam so that the timing is 1-3-2-4 would isolate the breathing to one port at a time instead of successive breathing at each port. However it would cause more vibration in the motor.

It was better but still the second /valve port caused too much trouble in flowing/filling cylinder. This is partially why the reverse port could provide better performance.
Don't get me wrong, a dedicated 4 port design is the bottom line but making one is very difficult.
