Dome light switch location for 29 fordor

Hi, anybody have any information on the location of the interior dome light switch and wiring location for a 1929 briggs body fordor? I found a perfect dome light NOS to replace the broken one in my car but the power wires and switch are long gone..

Here's where it was located in the 1929 Murray Town Sedan I restored. It's about 2/3 up on the passenger's side center wood pillar. There should be a notch in that pillar for the switch to be recessed into.

Hmmm...I am now thinking that Standard Fordors used the same round light as 1930-31 Coupes did. In that case, the switch was located on the light itself, not remotely as in the Town Sedans and Deluxe Fordors (1930-31).

And unlike the Town Sedan, isn't the dome light in a Standard Fordor located over the passenger's feet instead of over the rear window? I'm more conversant in Town Sedans than in Standard Fordors. Hence my vagueness.

Correct. TS had the oval light in an additional wood frame located above the rear window, switch was in a cutout located in the right side “B” pillar. Wiring was in the header, T connection at the wiper motor diagonal across the roof supports to the “B” pillar, down to the switch. Then from the switch diagonal to the lamp. Ground wire was from the lamp across the rear roof to the body.

Fordor has a round lamp located central to the passenger compartment. Look for holes in the roof supports for the wire from the header. As stated, I believe the switch is on the lamp itself.

Looking at a bare body, you can tell TS from Fordor by the lamp mounting. Can also usually tell if a Fordor has been “ converted” to a TS by the interior lamp.

As others have mentioned, the dome light is different in the Fordor as opposed to the Fordor Town Sedan.

The Town Sedan looks like this;

And the Town Sedan switch looks like this;

The Standard Fordor would have a round light with the switch attached.

Town Sedan dome light placement and wiring. Thanks to JayJay, I acquired the pattern to make the wooden mounting block. I installed a second dome light over the driver's seat, also activated by the "B" pillar toggle switch. Ford should have done that so the driver could "see the light", too.

Marshall, In your picture that shows to lens, does your lens have a black speck on it? The reason I ask is my lens appears to have a similar speck. Mine is definitely in the glass.

So that is how that mounts. I think I have a switch in my boxes some place. Seems to me though, that my dome light (in a box some place) has a flip switch built into it. I think it may be the same shape.

Y-Blockhead -
That black speck must have been a manufacturing defect because I was not able to get it out of my lens. Interesting that your lens has the same problem.

Interesting, I always thought my dad's 28 was a standard Fordor. Based on this information it's a Town Sedan! The switch has always been on the door post and light over the window. He added the cowl lights in 1990 when he restored it.

Thanks guys!

I am certainly not an expert, but I don't think Town Sedans (or three window Fordors in general) came out until 1929.

The Deluxe Two Window Fordors did have the light over the rear window.

"Correcto-mundo! Around April or May of 1929, in fact. Previously all Fordor Model A's were made by Briggs and were one of five "Blindback" versions, all without rear quarter panel window.

OK, I guess I have a deluxe instead of a TS. I've never learned when the model changes occurred. Either way it is nice to know that it's a step up from the standard. Always learning from this forum!
