everything was fine. started car today and no charge. jumped the cutout and amp gauge showed charge. I had the battery charger on it a few weeks ago without removing the cables from the battery. was this the cause of the diode popping?
Where did you connect the battery charger?
If the battery is + ground and you connected the charger with + ground, you shouldn't have hurt a thing no matter where you connected the charger.
well tom, obviously a senior moment on my part. i knew better. been fooling with pos gnds for over 40 yrs. first ford was a 1954. I had to have reversed the charger cables. will be ordering couple more diodes. tks
I would not run the engine without a load on the generator, you can burn them up without a load due to high voltage casued by the fact there is no load.
I had one of those diode cutouts in my A, worked great till I hooked up the battery incorrectly. It only took a fraction of a second, killed that diode dead.
