Does anyone know what this is? (1953 Ford)

I have a spare tire in a parts car for my 1953 Ford and I noticed this was clipped to the wheel. It is aluminum and way to light to be a weight. Does anyone know what it is? Does it protect the wheel from the jack assemble? (Jack and tire iron was in the trunk as well)

Most likely it's a part of a retention system for an aftermarket hub cap or trim ring of some sort.

Ahh that makes sense...did not even think of that haha!!

It is a retention piece for a certain type accessory hub cap made by FORD. The full disc ones that have the Black spots on the outer edge. The hubcap is listed as a 1952 accessory.

It looks like those already had a retention band around the periphery.
