Does anybody like sidemounts on a 33-34?

David

Some "rough" times ahead must be expected. I am also surprised that the rear spare did not get the same treatment as the "dual" sidemount's.

Maybe it's just me and seeing and looking at them for SO long now that its just part of the styling but I agree on the 33/34's about not being all that pleasing to the eye......BUT on our German 32 and the semi custom 32's from Germany the dual sidemount's look much more appropriate as well as pretty much a necessity given the rear trunks.

You need a straight eight with a long hood to pull off sidemounts.

I agree with you "except" I think "length" Overall is your friend, not just the hood!!! Generally speaking when you add length to the hood then it becomes dis-proportional to the body SO generally you add length to the total package a la Lincoln. PLUS it allows for a bit "lower" mounting which is also against the 33/34 Ford

Personally, I don't like side-mounts on ANY early V8 . . . except maybe a pickup.

I agree Dale. While it didn't look too bad on my 36 pickup I removed it and let it lay in the box. Any extra addition of that size dramatically obscures the look of the vehicle IMHO. Saving it for the next owner.

Robert,

In addition to the longer wheelbases of the two Lincolns in your photos, both cars have front doors hinged at the front which limits their forward intrusioon.

The doors on a '32 deluxe coupe (3w) preclude the use of side-mounted spares with that body type.

That is "exactly" the case with our German 32, I just about have to turn sideways and twist in to get into the front seats....It is a difficult task, especially not having anything to grab a hold of to help with balance. When we got the car, the A Pillar on one one side had been broken (the wood structure right at the base of the windshield) as we believe someone used it to grab a hold of either getting into or out of the car!!!!!

I'm a fan of sidemounts. Wire wheels, rumble seats, cowl vents -- anything that identifies a car of a by gone era that you'll never again see on today's cars.
