I have finally found date on fire wall, it is: 6-25-1929 and engine is: A1045965 which is Feb. 1929 all adds up just fine...Dick

I was confused too and thought you were looking for a certified banjo plucker named Steve. :)

I agree with Marco, as that's quite a time span for 1929 when Model A's were rolling off the line and being sold very quickly. Later in 1930 and 31 when sales really fell off the engines may have such a long time span, such as my slant windshield Town Sedan with a frame and engine number fron November 1930.

Anything is possible, however since I am second owner and have engine that was originally in car I would guess the numbers are all correct..hence my comment "it all adds up" I will have body off soon so frame numbers can be seen...need to take to state patrol to file for bonded title...boy are they unfriendly...Dick

Be sure to have a box of donuts ready.:D:p

Our club restored the Minnesota Highway Patrol 1930 Coupe and the two officers were great to work with.

Dick,
Kurt here, I bought your front fenders. I took my '36 to the State Patrol office in Marysville a few years back. I had my papers in order, the numbers were clean and I rubbed some soap stone in the stampings to make them more obvious. They were friendly and helpful, very painless. I hope you have the same experience.

Dick,
I have a similar situation as yours. The engine number for the engine in my 29 Tudor is 1040640 according to Plucks engine number chart the engine would have been manufactured 2-13-29. The number on the fire wall (gas tank) is 6-26-29. The previous owner told me that the frame number and the motor number are the same. The car as I purchased it has a forged tail lamp bracket and the front crossmember has holes for the front of the early engine pans to be bolted too. The number stamped in front of the left front seat is TC 17155 thus indicating that the car was assembled at the Twin Cities assembly plant. I thought that perhaps the gas tank had been changed out over the years due to a leak or some other problem and thus the June body number but who can say for sure? I would be interested to know the assembly plant that your car was manufactured at. Good luck with your titleing efforts.

Cheers:)

Walt, I'm pretty sure your gas tank was changed. I have an unrestored 2-23-29 (tank date) Tudor and the body number is very close to your's, TC17509. Too bad my engine was changed, as now I won't know the chassis number until I remove the body some day to restore the car.

Pretty sure fuel tank has not been changed, it is separate from fire wall and cowl, comes out from under cowl when removed..so numbers where stamped on actual fire wall not tank....this is early cabby....Dick

Kurt, good to hear from you, I also have used Marysville to title before without issue, however now I went to Burlington because closer and they were very unfriendly just finding out when they were open you thought I asked for moon...besides this time I have car that was purchased without notorized signature, the old lady would not go to have it done..hopeing a bonded title will work?? How is your project coming along?? Dick

The Cabriolet gas tank is exactly like all the others. Yes, it drops out the bottom but includes the top section of the firewall. That date is a gas tank date, not a body date. That doesn't mean it has been changed, but it did happen. Ford was continually making design changes to the '28-29 gas tanks to overcome production issues.

Just out of curiosity, do the original headlamps have small ferrules and conduits like '28 lamps or the larger size like the later lamps?

Tom - That makes me feel more comfortable with my 1931 Town Sedan that is registered as a 1930 because of the motor number.
I will have to look back at the posts but I think the motor was assembled in Nov 1930 and the body was identified as being made in March - April 1931.

Marco; I will go look to see about ferrals on headlamps, thanks for telling me about fuel tank being part of fire wall, I have not started taking that part apart so with out a seam in cowl like my '29 Roadster pickup I guessed the tank was separate from fire wall...think since I am second owner, and first owner a lady who never changed anything, most things on car are original...like green paint inside fenders by rumble seat...no green for '29 in judging standards...this car was green, maybe one color green but green as was upholstery...other than outside paint which was changed this car could be a example for standards...yes they changed headlights to seal beams..only things changed is rings to hold seal beams....glad to share pictures of anything for reference...Dick

Dick,

My progress has slowed a bit with the cold weather, but continues.
I saw Jim at a fire last month and I passed along your "hello".
Good luck with your title.

Kurt
