If you were to buy a new engine gasket set for a Ford 223 I-Block 6, you might get one of those old style head gaskets with the sandwich type construction that do require re-torquing, HOWEVER, there is no need to remove anything but the rocker arm cover regardless of whether you are working on a Y-Block or an I-block. Every head bolt on a Y-block is accessible with a socket even with the rocker arms in place. It might be wise to slightly loosen the exhaust manifold bolts prior to re-torquing head bolts. If you must re-torque, it would be very wise to go back through all your valve lash adjustments after re-torquing.
Again, it is about a thousand-to-one odds that you need to re-torque. Engine gasket sets often identify the type of head gaskets enclosed in the set. If the set includes Fel-Pro prema-torque head gaskets, they do not require re-torquing. If the gasket set contains sandwich type with rubber middle in the head gasket, the kit instruction sheet should clearly indicate that the head gaskets require re-torquing.
