Do I need a proportioning valve...

I am building a 32 traditional style hotrod with 48 drum brakes front and rear. I'm a newbie and have never done this before.

With the brake lines...
Do I need a "Proportioning Valve"?
Do I need a "Residual Check Valve"?
What is a "Rear End Vent"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I would use large disc up up front get a kit from eci

You should not need a prop valve with 4 wheel drums, but should have or install residual valves if the (dual I hope) master cylinder you use does not have them already internally.
All rear ends need to be ventilated. Stock early Fords with torque tubes vented through the tube, but if changed to an open drive, should have a vent installed on top of the banjo or one axle tube.

If going drum front and back no extra valves are needed. I would use a early ford dual master cyl with an adapter for the 39 style pedals. The early master cyls have build in check valves. Do not us external valves in conjuction with a master that has built in valves, it will not work. I know from experience. There are some old post in the archives on this subject. Frank pkny

Since you are using drums all around you don't need a proportioning valve.
If you are using a dual circuit master cylinder you will need two 10# residuals (one for each circuit). The stock ford master has a residual built in.
A rear end vent allows air to escape as things warms up while driving to prevent oil being pushed passed the seals.

You may want to contact Richard at the Early V-8 Garage. 626-338-2282. They have all the parts and components necessary to install hydraulic Brakes on your '32 including the mounting for the master cylinder and all the linkage parts to adapt your stock '32 pedals. They also have pre bent brake line kits and all the other parts necessary for the Hydraulic Brake conversion.

Give them a call, I think they can help you.

Chris
