Ok so now im moving upwards a bit.
Whats the story about the 083 Pistons??
I guess they are non Ford

Is there a place i can get new rings for them?
The only one's ive found is for 080 pistons.
can i take 100 and file down to the right gap?

Lars, it really does look like an odd ball size. I've sent a message to Pete at Nordian to see if he has anything.

If you measure the bore does it come to the same size??

I ran +40 rings on +45 pistons - not a resounding success. You could try the +100 filed down - it might work ok.

Does it need rings? If the bore is not badly worn and the rings are ok, maybe they will work well enough without being replaced.

My German engine is running it's as-received rings and runs beautifully.

Mart.

I think those were made specifically for use in engines that had the factory installed "tin can" liners removed. I'm not sure about replacement parts availability but some here will know.

You are right and I could not find a full set of rings for my 37 which is 3 1/16 + .o83 . I used .080 for one piston.

Check the fordson tractor dealers the same tin can set up was used in the fordson 83 ths. were used when the tin cans were removed Johnny.

A correction if I may: The Ford tractor that used the .083" pistons was the 9N-2N-8N series built from 1939 through 1952, NOT the Fordson which was built from 1917-1927 in the U.S. and much longer in Europe. Two entirely different tractors.

You'll be fine with .080 rings. A few extra .000 ring gap won't hurt a thing. New rings on a new bore job, your lucky to have .003 per in. of bore gap. With .003 overbore and a little wear, if you have .020 end gap it will be fine. I had a ring repersentive tell me one time, if I had .040 end gap I'd never know it. That seems to be a little much. I may have hunted up a set of rings that will work today. have to do some checks this evening.

The ring gap now is 1,5 mm around .055" its a bit much.

Will update you.

If it's 3 3/16 + .083, bore another .040" and install Egge 3ring pistons. The lip at the top of the bore will have to be removed. I made a special cutter for the bpring bar to remove this. If you don't the rings will catch on it.

I have never seen a 3 3/16 bore with steel liners. Only ones I've seen are 3 1/16 with the steel liners. Then the .083 pistons were used when the liners were removed.

No< I've done several of them. BUT! The sleeve sitd in a recess that doesn't clean up whrn boring to 3 5/16, so the rings hang up. I cut a slight taper here. Works sliker than snot on a marble floor.

Ive ordered a Set of rings, its a combo of mm type top rings for something and 080 8BA oilscraperings.

Hopefully it will work for me, Will let you know how it goes.

Try Red's Header's. A couple of years ago, I almost bought .083 over pistons and rings from him, but my block wouldn't clean up at that, so I went bigger.
