Distributor

And do you want a distributor based on traditional points/condenser, or go with an electronic do-dad.

Its possible to buy the electronic do-dad to go in a traditional case - or buy it prepared.

I'm kind of into 1930s aftermarket right now. I bought a Mallory YA-11A on ebay and almost immediately confronted the "can't get a cap" (Rotor is 24215 which was used on MANY Mallories. Cap originally was 24003/24010 for this)

Meanwhile, Delco had their period replacement. Auto-lite theirs. And likely others who are even less documented/researched.

Just in case you haven't seen this, relates to V8 but basicaly the same:

>>"The "floating" center rotor ( spring steel center) needs a cap with a fixed center carbon. The "solid" center rotor needs the cap to have a floating center carbon. One or the other has to float. Be careful not to mix the two!"
I think they have been mixed plenty of times ...

There is a NOS cap on ebay of the 003 variety.
It looks like it would fit, but not sure. Would be close to A$500 shipped here.

I saw that discussion of the 24000 series parts versus 4000 series parts. This one would require to keep going with 24000 series so an existing spring loaded rotor (24215) could be used.

Curious how the external cap is marked 24003 (4003) but the inner cap is 24010. Mallory used 24010 (4010) on MANY 4, 6, 8 applications and even simply "blocked off" additional connections on the external cap - without changing the numbers.

The price on a complete (Ebay) cap is a little staggering - I'm kind of hoping something will turn up at the local Antique Auto Flea Market. I'm a little surprised someone hasn't come up with a "modern replacement", which for my use (Gordon-Smith Compressor) would be fine.

Bubba's Ignitions U$ED to be THE place to go - as in bring your wallet. But he's apparently retired.
