distributor tuning

I know it's not the same engine, but a car I was referring to in my earlier post was a '68 Rambler 6 cyl. When setting the points to spec., it would run rough as soon as vacuum went to the can and rotated the plate in the dist. I measured the gap with the plate rotated for advance and came up with a compromise point gap that worked in in all situations. Whether it was a design flaw or bad parts, I don't know.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to replace the condenser with a known USA made one. Maybe a NAPA Echlin brand ? I also just worked on a '60 T-Bird that had everyone scrambling for cures. Problem was a Chinese condenser.

The no-name condenser that came in the rebuilt distributor failed in about 50 miles. I replaced it with a Blue Streak that is in it now. I also tried another used condenser with the same results. I can actuate the vacuum with the MityVac and it doesn't appear to affect the running when applied at low rpm.
