distributor question

Did a search and found some information but not what I was needing.

Have a Thomas Head with a Mallory single point distriubutor, and a Weber carb. Was wondering if anyone could tell me what the spark advance should be with that set up.

Oblilged!

Which compression Thomas? 7:1??

I would start at 28° and go from there using plug readings or dyno results to fine-tune. Compression ratio, curve rate in the distributor, camshaft, intake & exhaust manifolds, and rear end gear ratio all play into selecting a number the engine feels that is optimum.

Thanks. Yes thomas 7-1. I was getting a higher degree that seemed to be good. was wondering about too much spark. Maybe on stock engine and distributor something about damage to rod and main bearings?
Thanks
