I didn't see it mentioned (but maybe I missed it). Are you using original style points and condenser or modern style? There is an often encountered problem with modern points where the rotor interferes with the points when it is pushed all the way on. Many guys file/grind material off the base of the rotor to resolve this issue.

Possible there was a poor connection where the condensor base tab fastens to the distributor body, R&Ring the condensor made a difference. Or possibly the other end of the condensor where it connects.
