Distributor install issues lyb

I do have the later oil pump with hex drive. Everything fits together it's just the intermediate shaft is a little bit too long. I'm asking what's the best way to cut it so it won't heat up too much. Also, where is the sliding washer on the shaft supposed to go?

Cut it with a hacksaw if it's not too hard...if it is, a cutoff wheel in a die grinder will do fine and not hurt anything. The sliding washer usually goes up against the block so that the shaft doesn't come up out of the oil pump when you pull the distributor.

Everything is good. Distributor went in all the way, oil pump is attached with the op shaft, timing should be right. Have the intake manifold at the shop getting sand blasted, ready to paint. Then all there is is to pick a carb for her. I'm thinking about a 450 cfm Holly. ****** still at the shop getting yorn down finding out what it needs. Don't know if I posted a recent picture or not but I'm kinda proud of the engine.
