My engine came with no disstributer on it and I,m tryin to figure out witch one i need in case I see one for sale . It is a merc 239 ,has the raised intake lip ,you can sit the pencil over the timing cover ,29A heads , It,s blue . A picture would be great . The motor is the one on my avitar . It has two mounting holes at 2 and 8 o,clock and another smaller hole at 11 o,clock If I was smart enough to post a picture I would. Thanks MP

If the heads are original to the engine, it's a '42 model and would take the 2 bolt distributor with the flat "crab" cap. I'm pretty sure that the distributors were the same from then through '48. The cap arrangement was different on the later 2 bolt versions, but you can retro-fit the crab cap to them by changing the cap hold down retainers. By the way, the smaller hole is the vacuum port.

Sounds from the bolt hole description that you need the 37-41 Diving Helmet distributor. Pretty easy to find, good distributor. 41 has the best advance curve. Look for one marked 11A on the drive end of the distributor.

The crab (1942, wartime) or the 59A (same thing, different hat) will fit right on. Both use the 11A advance, best of the flathead curves.
