Hey guys, when dealing with this style caliper, does this spring loaded lock haft to be driven in with a hammer ?
Holy crap, I dont see how these will float and let pressure off the out side pad,
Do I need to make them float ?
Thanks

Yes, the key and spring are tapped in as an assembly. I used a flat nose punch. Make sure the spring is lubed as the caliper slides on it.

This is a sliding caliper design. It cannot float.

EDIT -

When line pressure is released, the caliper seal will pull the caliper piston back in and that is what will cause this style caliper to slide. When you compress the piston and after installing the pads, take your hand and see if the caliper slides easily on the caliper bracket. You will see how it works. Do this before pumping the pedal to move the piston out.

Did that make sense ... ...

X2^ Proven simple design, for many years it was the only system on all Ford models from Pinto to F350. I have 4 cars with that system.

Got the drivers side installed loosely and working on pass side now. Went fairly easy once I got the front drivers side loose. Couple things on the kit. The front mount #10 is a bit off. The studs they sent do not fit right. Supposed to be 7/16 x 14 but do not quite fit. Tried using a known 7/16 nut on them a does not go. Also tried a known bolt on their nut and also does not go. So ended up reusing the studs that came out with new nuts.

Those brakes are common to lots of old Fords, IIRC on many 1973-ish Fords and Montegos, Torinos, etc. I used brake lube on them when I was doing brakes for a living, they tap in fairly easily, I do not recall ever fighting with one.
