DISAPPOINTMENT at Elliott Museum

I had my 1965 Turbocharged Corvair convertable in a car museum for one year. I thought it was a good deal for the free storage, however someone stole the gearshift knob, broke the remote rear view mirror, and put a dent in the car.

Tom That was very unfortunate. My experience has been that the area is cordoned off with security cameras and staff to ensure that type of damage does not occur ! One of my cars was in the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas for 2 years and came out looking better than when it was dropped off ! Maybe location and calibre of museum has something to do with it !

I totally disagree with trulyvintage !
Museums should allow the visitor to get an up close look. Most museums allow this and I have never even read about museum goers damaging vehicles. They have a system that obviously is flawed and must be fixed if they want to compete. Henry Ford museum is far nore user friendly. Kinda like the old saying be competitive or get out of the way for the competition to pass you by and leave you in their dust !
I am sure that many Fordbarn readers have already taken this museum off their to see list !

Seems like you have heard it now on the very forum you
posted on by an actual car owner who had actual damage
to an actual car that he owned .....

Well I went. Let me tell you honestly it is a quant place. When we were there this past weekend they had a hands on exhibit of DiVinci's drawings come to life. Baseball display with cards and signed balls from all era's and local people things.

They had an electric, steam, and gas car on display along with several other vehicles on the display floor. The three story elevator of cars was broke down. No cars and the touch screen with info was lacking at that. They did give us a free pass to come back at another time during the year but if one were have traveled any distance to see the A's you were out of luck. I did like it but I dont think I'll make the two plus hour trip by modern car to go again.

If you are in the area it is worth the trip but if you have to travel to get there call ahead to see ifeverything is working.

I just got home from spending the weekend in Florida and I almost took a drive down there (three hours) to see the museum. Glad I didn't.

Tom, if you ever do, let those of us that live here know and I'm sure some of us would/could meet up for lunch or dinner and help out on where or how to stay.

I've only been to Florida once, and that was to attend my cousin's wedding, see the space shuttle launch, and visit my other cousin near Tampa. I must have a black cloud hanging over my head. The wedding only lasted a couple years, the space shuttle never launched and even though I stayed extra days to see it, it set a record for the number of delays, so I gave up and drove the the west side of the state to visit my other cousin. It was unusually cold and as I recall the Gulf may have set a record low for water temp. I'd never been to the ocean, so I wanted to go swimming to see how much easier a person can float in salt water. Talk about freezing the family jewels!!:eek:

I did visit the Edison museum, and sure enjoyed that. I need to go back. I sure wish we had some of those neat trees in MN. I think they were called Banyon trees, if I remember correctly.:)

I also enjoyed the grapefruit fresh from the tree. It's nothing like store bought.
