Dirty hands

I make my own soap for hands and laundry. use 1/2 bar of ivory soap 1/2 cup of Borax 1/2 cup of Arm and Hammer washing soda. grate the Ivory soap up and melt in a pan with 1 cup of water on stove on low heat. when dissolved mix Borax and washing soda mix well. Add 1 and a half gallons of hot water to it let set and it will thicken up. works wonderfull for hands or laundry! try it only cost about 87 cents for 2 gallons. the wife will think you are ever so smart and leaves more money for the A...Dave

Great idea, Dave! I'm going to try it. Small or large bar of Ivory? By the way Ivory bar soap on a wet rag does leather better than saddle soap. My leather recliner looks new, after many years of me & the dog.
Thanks, Bill W.

Bill you use the regular size bar.Iguess it would be the small. try it it impressed the wife and yall know thats hard to do.

I use a product called Trounce. It is made by Permatex which is owned by the Locktite Corp. There is nothing better. Norm

I use dawn dishsoap... cutst the grease pretty good. Also, with my wife being a physical therapist we have a big box of the latex gloves. I'll admit I feal like a wimp using them but the extra grip is nice too.

I clean with GO JO without the pumice, then any hand soap with a brush for the nails. For cracking I used cooking oil (Canola) for years. A teaspoonful rubbed in well for several minutes and then wiped off with a paper towel kept the cracks from coming. It dried off well in a few more minutes with no greasy residue.
Lately I discovered Lac-Hydrin Five like "tdlmomowers" in Post #41 and it works better than anything I have ever used. Always soft hands and no cracks even in the dry Minnesota winters. Now I can touch a woman again and never get the "ouch" reaction. Still doesn't mean I get a good reaction though... :(

I swear by "Invisible Glove." I find that Octagon or Dawn makes my hands a little slippery. If anything, Invisible Gloves makes my hands LESS slippery and I am less prone to the "dropsies."

Don't put it on overly heavy, and be sure to get it under your fingernails. Once you are finished working, a quick wash with some light soap and you are good enough for church.

Check your fingernails.Especially the thumbs. If you see ridges, that's an indication that you have absorbed chemicals into your body. The deeper the ridges are the more severe the problem. Most of this stuff winds up in your liver, not good.Regardless of what you use before or after to clean,if you see these ridges,it's recommended that some kind of protection should be used.
