dirt track tires

I am thinking about putting a pair of 16" dirt track tires on my 32 roadster. How is the ride, anybody running them? Do you have to run tubes? What options do I have in the front if I decide not to run ribs? Is anybody running radials on the front? Thanks! Rich (845) 782-1933 NY

Are they DOT approved for the street, and won't they wear out fast due to the softer compound, used for racing

I am running a pair of Firestone 14.31X15 double diamonds from Coker on my roadster 10K on the tires and no appreciable wear. Have had no problems at all except coming home late last week and ran over a raccoon, when the rears hit him it made a sound similar to exploding a watermelon but the tires survived. Coker makes the tire and it is DOT approved. I used to race sprint cars and tried running them on a car for the street. Even on a light car they wore out like a cheap eraser. The compound was great for the track but NEVER meant to run hundreds or thousands of regular traffic miles. If I wanted the look and wear I would go Coker again. As a side note I ran Coker rib fronts and at 7K miles they were as bald as the guy on Pawn stars. In all fairness to Coker, the side wall was emblazened with "For Display Purposes Only" so I am sure they did not have roadworthy compounds.
