Different length Grill - Cowl lace?

Finally getting around to installing the grill and cowl lace. The instructions provided in the kit (probably from A&L) look like a copy of the factory part specifications. They call out different lengths 29 5/16" and 29 13/16ths for the radiator shell and 36 5/16 " and 36 13/16ths for the cowl (dash/firewall).

Am I missing something? Why different lengths?

Tom,

With respect, nearly every part on your car has a small range of dimensions within which parts must fall to be functionally acceptable. We do not see that often unless we get to look at a Ford engineering drawing, which aren't in the public domain.

Al took something of a chance in providing to you (and me) that drawing copy. Given the location of the subject parts and the material that they were made of, a half inch worth of variance tolerance strikes me as reasonable.


P.S. Also recall that there is more than one hook slot at the bottom of the sides of the radiator shell and firewall.

Thanks David, I kinda thought it was a tolerance range but I thought i'd ask anyway. And Yup there are three hook slots
