Difference between early and late 40 merc

Ok my brother and I picked up a 1940 Merc Tudor, and upon looking for various bits and pieces we need to finish it off we keep reading, is it an early or late 40?
So with it being late last night and no tech lines open at the various vendors weh are still curious to find out what the difference is and how do we tell? It seems that this is only a concern with wiring harnesses. We did hear that one difference is one dash light as opposed to two, if that's the diff, then where and what dash light are they being referred to? Thanks again gurus!

I know this is an old post, but since no one responded, I will.
Differences between early and late 40 Merc (early/late)

Voltage regulator (same as Ford) small square 2 screw mount/rectantular 3 screw mount
Steering wheel (ring grooves on rims/finger grips on rim)
High beam indicator (dash above instruments/in instrument panel)
Ignition switch lever (ball/flat tab)
Grill top bars (no support/support brace)
Available paint colors

I'm sure there are more.
