Dics Brakes

Is this a taboo subject? If not, please read below.
I see where there are plenty of $600+ dollar kits out there to put disc brakes on the front of a shoebox.
My question, is there or has anyone made their own conversion? Disc from car A, caliper from car B, and caliper mounts from car C.
I'm having a hard time wanting to drop that kind of coin for something that seems pretty simple.
As I want to drive my car daily, i want easy to work on reliability.

I'd look for a components kit. Usually I think those include caliper brackets and backing plates. Then you need to find out what calipers and rotors to go with. Speedway makes a components kit for 37-48, not sure if that will work but it's like 100 bucks and I think uses '71-76 Impala calipers. Not sure what rotors work. Right Stuff Detailing might have a kit as well. However, unless you can find the calipers and rotors for a good deal, you may find piecing it together to end up costing you the same money as buying a kit.

Check with ECI, I put one of their kits on my 46 and it sure didn't cost $600. Don't remember how much I paid for it.

Have you done brake work before? Lots more to it than slapping on calipers and rotors. You'll want to swap out the master cylinder to a recommended dual chamber unit, 1" bore non-power and you may need to put in residual pressure valves unless your master has them installed internally. Take it from me, don't think about rear discs because they ain't worth the hassle. Your front brakes do 75% of the stopping.

yes I have done brake work before. I switched my 65 Fairlane front to disc. I used a Mustang dual master cylinder and a porportioning valve out of a late 70 full size Ford (i don't remember what car). I took the disc's and spindles off of a Maverick.
I have no desire to swap the rear to disc's.
