determining originality of window cranks

What is the key to determining if window cranks are original? Weight and finish? I have some that are stamped R201 underneath(w/ an accompanying symbol or trademark), but am unclear if they are repros. This may be something that comes with experience.

Are you talking about the die cast window crank handles? If so, see page 12-7 of the "Restoration Guidelines" and tell me which style handle you have and what year and body style vehicle.
Style D should be bright nickel. Styles M & U can be either bright nickel or Butler nickel, depending on what year and body style it is in.
Reproduction Style D handles are easy to distinguish because of the knob with the bump in the center. Original style D handle knobs are smooth.
Every reproduction handle that I have ever seen was chrome plated.

Now, if you are talking about the "window crank mechanisms", that is a different can of worms.

Yes, it sure is too bad someone doesn't make the correct handle for the most common Model A, the Tudor, without the bump in the center and NICKEL plated instead of Taiwan chrome.

I took my repro chrome handles to my plater to be redone in nickel, and he said "they're all nickel plated under the chrome, I'll be back in ten minutes". He quickly stripped the chrome and buffed the nickel, and tossed it back to me and said "no charge". They all came out beautifully.
