John is the 2nd owner of the car. He is restoring it for show. Packard was done in the shop years ago. That worn out piece of cloth is a orginial rear spring cover thats under the seat[ 12oz White duck material was used]. Matching frame /engine#. The lg. hole under where the terminal box goes is for a manifold heater. Weird one at that. But its a mint unit and John the owner wants what was on the car when it was bought in 1955 from a little old orginial owner. I would of filled it that hole forsure.... But the body is super and so are the parts. I wish him luck and pointed him in the right direction.

Wondering why they didn't spray the inside
of the body panels? Not much more work , but it will sure protect them from the elements of a open top car!!

tuneman , I spoke to them about it. Thing will change in the up coming weeks... I told them a Deluxe open car is much harder and cost more to restore for fine point judging then a 28/29 standard open cars. The Deluxe car- top,side curtains and interior is 2 or 3 times more cost then your open standard models. At least NO WHITE WALLS...

Nice project! What is the history on the 443 Packard? I had an unrestored twin to it that I swapped for my 1912 T Touring. I'm still happy with the trade.

Nice phaeton and nice 443 Packard. I restored a 443 Packard Dietrich Convertible Coupe back in the 90s. Great car but in Southern Calif. nobody works on their Packards so there's nobody to answer Packard questions. Most Packard owners I met liked to brag about how much money they spent at the local Packard repair shop. Model A Fords are a lot more fun.

Pete,
Very pretty car. Saw something different than my cars. One of the pictures shows a vertical brace in the rear corners of the body. Interesting. My cars don't have that. Pete, Early or late car? No indented firewall so can't be too late.

Wow;

Nice car(s).

Do you think John would be willing to trade even for my coupe for the 443 Packard?

Hello Dean , this is by Engine# / frame # matching - a Aug 1930 car. My car had the same which is also a Aug. 1930 car. It seems the 180A changed in one way or another with almost every 50 bodies made..Leave it up-to Briggs.

Pete,

Interesting how many different little things you pickup when you look at pictures. My cars are June and December and they differ greatly to each other. Cool stuff! Thanks for posting.

Dean

Al Lapore and i spoke one night for over a hour [which is easy for me] about the different changes over the 1-1/2 years of the 180A. He said that the 180A should not be a Production car but a classic like the TownCar. Al seen alot of changes within the 1-1/2 . Do you know there are 3 different [rear quarter door piller foot plate to wood sill] .First one was cast ,then you had 2 different stamped steel plates. 2 different upper stanchions and 2 different lower stanchions.Early 180A's before June 1930 used alot of brass fittings. 3 rear outside window frames. Brass chrome plated/steel chrome and then Stainless steel. 3 different top prop knobs and the list could go on.
