1931 Ford Model A Two-Door Phaeton - For Sale

Be careful if you are looking for a Deluxe Phaeton. A lot of the Deluxe Phaetons were made for export and many were sold to South America and in Australia. Over the years, they were brought to America and were converted back to LHD. There are alot differences between the American cars and the export bodies. There were a lot of these cars were bought into the US by several dealers like Page's, Carl Burnett, Dr. Burecter (spelling?) and others. They were ROUGH. Also, About 20-30 years ago, reproduction Deluxe Phaeton bodies were reproduced in steel in Indiana. There were a lot of difference between an original. Often, these bodies were installed on "restored" chassis and were often sold as original, especially at auctions including Kruse Auctions. About 30-40 years ago, there were a couple bodies made in California by an extremely talented "metal bender". These were AMAZING. Dead on correct. One went through High Point national judging and did extremely well.

No Deluxe two doors were ever sold in Australia.
Chassis were imported from Canada.
Bodies were put together here locally and were all four door open tourers.
There was a Sports, which was a tarted up Standard four door.

Updraft is correct - no 1931 Ford Model A two-door Phaetons were ever sold in Australia.
As a matter of fact, no 1931 Ford Model A's of any body style were sold here.
We got 1930 models and the next lots were the 1932 Fords.

you mentioned, "There are alot differences between the American cars and the export bodies." could you share the details so we can all learn? Thanks

If you're looking at a DP to purchase, take along a magnet and see if it sticks to the body. Years ago, someone (Westcott?) made DP bodies out of fiberglass. If the magnet won't stick to the body, it's probably fiberglass. Beneath a beautiful paint job, one might not be able to tell a real body from a fiberglass one.

Grandpa’s Deluxe Phaeton in 1946. Wonder if it survived somewhere?
