Great tech tips article on pg.16 Rebuilding the GEMMER worm-and-roller steering gear. Another good article, being that time of year is on gasoline and storage pg.24 Nice 41 panel truck to round out this issue:D

Thanks 39portlander, the article can be read by Googling "Vintage Trucks", finding the article and magnifying it. I thought that I had a bad worm and roller even though they look good in my '37 steering box. I have some excess side play in the steering wheel (at center) and although I keep tightening the roller shaft adjustment screw, even to the point of not being able to lock it down, it doesn't seem to help. Maybe removing some of the paper shims from the housing end plate will help (Tom Mason also suggested this). I just can't wait to open that end plate and let that sticky, gooey oil drip out! Anyone else try this? I'll let you know what happens.

my steering gear is one of my winter projects. My steering wheelshaft assembly turns left to right with one finger on the wheel. This is with the shaft in a vise. Hopeing just por15 the housing and resetting worm bearing preload.
