Dealer nameplate on Model T

Years ago I bought a 1926 Model T coupe out of the midwest. It had a brass dealer nameplate attached to the dash. I removed it and mounted it on a walnut plaque for display. I have not seen many, if any dealer nameplates on Model Ts. The dealers name is Ham Nerney Ford. I found out that they were the first Ford dealer in Los Angeles. I was wondering how rare something like this is and what value you might place on it? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks, Dale

Google around a bit for more info. I guess value would depend on quantity. If he sold thousands of cars $ value might be low. Are they still in business? They might be interested in it if so.

The value of a nameplate would depend on the rarity and the person searching for one. There are collectors out there that collect nothing but nameplates and there are auto collectors that would love to have an original nameplate that was on the car when purchased new. Personally, I would like to find a 1904 Theo Jonas dealer plate from Milwaukee,WI, or a 1904 Pence dealer plate from Minneapolis, MN. These two are rare, and expensive. In your case you could always try e-bay with a high reserve just to test the market. Good luck.

I have one that was on the firewall of a model A doodlebug that I bought about 35 years ago. When I fixed up the doodlebug and got it runnning, I took off the plate, and have it mounted like you did. I recently sold the doodlebug to a truck museum, but still have the plate.

Here's mine. I bought my T in parts, and this brass nameplate followed the papers. I didn't know where on the car it originally was mounted. I would guess either firewall or dash. If anyone know for sure, I'd be glad to know. Or maybe the location was entirely up to the dealer to decide?

An example of the same Nerney brass plate is shown in 'Ford Life', March April 1972.
It states they were a large L.A. Ford Dealership & sold '1000's of Model T's'.
Not be critical, but maybe any real value of the plate would have it still being screwed on the dash.
