I have not had any luck in locating a dash light switch for my '36 coupe, nothing at the swap meets and I've been told that they are no longer available from the vendors.

Has anyone found a suitable replacement at Radio Shack or any place else?

Thanks,

Lyndon

Its just a simple on-off switch so you can rig up almost anything you want. Toggel, rocker one etc. ken ct.

Thanks Ken.

I found something that will work. Kinda odd though that such a simple thing is not being reproduced and offered by the vendors.

Lyndon-

As far as I know these switches are not being made nor have they ever been reproduced, which seems odd. The switch itself is rather frail being made of a cardboard shell which means they tend to have a short lifespan under the best of conditions.

On two past occasions (in person), I suggested to Bob Drake that he should give some thought about reproducing these things. The basic switch fits '35-'37 which means it is not a unique model creation. And, as you know, this switch is a single-step off-on which shouldn't make it a complicated item to make. I also suggested to Bob that "if" he did repo the item a two-step alternate would be nice as it would also provide a switch for fog lights. Bob was polite but I could see he wasn't interested.

In the meantime, while you search you could use a '49-'50 headlight switch. It has more leads than what you need but it can be "somewhat" modified to look "somewhat" like the remaining knobs (choke, throttle and lighter) with the addition of a repo knob which are readily available from several sources. Other than that you are between a rock and a hard place trying to find the correct switch.

Good luck

Tom:

That's exactly what I had in mind as a suitable replacement. I will need to do a little fab work in order to mount the proper light switch knob on it but it will work fine.

The switch that Meric shows has the same suffix part number to the correct one. I believe the switch in the picture is 40-13740 or possibly 21C-13740, and the correct one for '36 is 68-13740. Being made out of cardboard explains why I have never seen one.

I have a couple of them, but only good for parts, you couldn't even make 1 out of the 2 of them. There missing the wings which are a separate part from the body and 1 bezzel is missing.Sorry. ken ct.

I had one that was only good for parts, but I stuck it in the dash anyway. The spring clips on the back were gone, so I used a small worm drive hose clamp on the back and it held it OK. At least it filled the hole and looked right.
