Ok, my inst. light socket covers are all dry rotted. Can I just by some shrink tubing and use that as a cover?

Should work. Right size shrink tube, and just shrink it on the socket. Might take a couple try’s to get the length right (depends on how much length you lose). But if they’re what I’m thinking, they just prevent light leakage under the dash.

Oh, didn’t think about light leakage. May have to experiment to get a good shoulder to seal them up.

Thanks,

Mike

I just always assumed that’s what they were for. If I’m right, just shrink the base of the wrap, not the end by the bulb.

The light socket itself is ground and doesn't need a rubber cover on it. The reason why the factory included it was to include that seal between the socket and dash escutcheon. Many automotive light sockets don't have the rubber cover, but the seal is accomplished by the stamped metal socket end.
Without the seal, some of your light will escape under the dash.

Thanks Dave. I figured the socket was grounded through the dash. Now I will just have to find a way to seal them up.

If nothing else, just pull off a glob of duxseal and roll it into the shape of a worm, then mold it into a ring at the base of the socket and smash it around the rear dash escutcheon. That will seal it and it will last many years.
