Dash Light for '29 Model A

Member “rackops” is developing a protocol to restore them, I bet he’ll have some available in the next few months.

Seems to me I recall that even if the dash lights for 28-29 are available, they are replacement type and not quite like the originals. Something about the replacement caps not fitting original sockets? I've got an original socket but without the cap so I'll be looking for an original cap come swap meet season. Am I remembering this clearly or not getting good information?

For the most part, this is correct. I have very few (about 12) caps and a bunch (about 40) bases. Some caps fit some bases and don't fit in other bases. I'm sure some of them are reproductions, but I also think there are variations between original pieces as well. My rule of thumb after restoring them is "if the cap fits, it fits" :D

I have my first couple of restored lights ready to go, but they're spoken for. I'm waiting on some parts to arrive in order to keep making the electrical fittings, but our recent (current) snowfall has delayed their arrival. I'm also waiting on new springs for the light housing, and those should be here in a couple of weeks (coming from Australia).

Here are some photos of one I recently finished. It is heading to Australia shortly.

This is off topic. I found my original 30 light ran really hot. I put a LED turnsignal bulb in. Now it runs cool and I can leave it on to-see speedo at night.

Many "back in the day" inserted parking light or tail-light bulbs into the bayonet socket. The actual bulb was listed as "3 cp" which is an exceedingly small bulb - and then not available.

Parts Price List (1932) shows the "Stop" bulb as A-13465 and the tail-light bulb A-13466 and the instrument panel light as A-13466. (Same)

Les Andrews (Mechanics Handbook) shows the "Stop" light as 21cp and the tail-light as 3cp.

Snyder's A-13466 is today's "3cp" bulb. Their LED substitution A-13466-LED has the equivalent of 18cp incandescent

18cp is quite bright. Maybe TOO bright. If you have more/better information of a low level LED bulb you may be using - post it here.

I like LEDs a LOT. Up to 10x the light of an incandescent bulb at the same wattage rating.

Why build more power plants when you can increase the efficiency of downstream consumers. (The rationale behind LED "Give-Away" by utilities)

Also looking for a dash light for my 1931. The old one the lever/pin broke off. I have the bulbs and brackets. Has anyone found a way to rebuild these with a new socket and switch?
